Open Letter to my prego self

Open Letter to my prego self – Berks Hypnobirthing

As my son approaches another birthday (where has my baby gone!) I have been reflecting on the amazing journey we have been through as a family. I’ve been thinking back to when we found out we were pregnant and my bump days. So, I have decided to write an open letter to my 8 months pregnant self with the hope that it can help some other ladies out there (or their birth partners) if they see some of these traits in themselves.

I know you hate being treated differently just because you are pregnant. If someone offers you help or tell’s you to slow down you don’t need to respond with “I’m pregnant not ill”. They are just trying to help. In actual fact, they recognise you are doing an amazing thing – growing a brand new human being! Take the help. Learn to relax. Taking a break is not a sign of weakness it is essential for your’s and your babies health and wellbeing. Take the opportunity to have some uninterrupted relaxation time because soon it will be very limited!

Stop worrying about bouncing back to your pre-baby body! Once baby is here it really doesn’t matter. If people judge you on this then they aren’t worth your time The stretch marks you have acquired are a sign of your amazing achievement and a new chapter in your life. Embrace them.

Say no. Stop trying to please everyone. Take control of your situation and do what you want. If you don’t want visitors at the hospital then say so. You are entitled to have quality time with your family and do it on your terms. You don’t need to take everyone’s opinion to heart – bottle or breast, hospital birth, home birth, co-sleeping or not. Everyone will have an opinion, it doesn’t mean you need to listen to them. Do what is best for you and your family. You are the mummy bear and you know what is best.

Spend time with your significant other. Quality time alone will become fewer and further between soon. So take the opportunity if the last few weeks to go to dinner, go to the cinema, chill together. Give your partner time to express their worries and fears. You guys are in it together!

Finally, you will be amazing! Take the pressure off your shoulders. You have 100% got this! Your instincts will kick in and you will know what to do. You might make a few mistakes (there is a learning curve when it comes to some things – poo explosion n a 5* hotel) but you will be a fabulous mother!

Lot’s of love,

Your future self xx
