A Hypnobirthing Mum – On Mum Guilt
I am writing today’s blog post a wonderful Thai massage and right now I have zero Mum Guilt. Mum Guilt is awful, it creeps up on you or slams you right in the face. It can occur because of anything and everything; feeling like you’re not spending enough quality time with your little person, shoving fish fingers in the oven instead of creating a homemade meal, having a quick scroll through social media instead of being 100% present 100% of the time. The list seems to be endless.
I think mum’s need to cut themselves a bit of slack. Mum guilt only exists because the media has created the ‘perfect’ image of what a mother is meant to be. We then have the horrible habit of comparing ourselves to this or other people portrayal of perfect and we feel guilty.
The great thing is we don’t have to be perfect! If you are trying your best but need the occasional break/quick option/respite that is fine. It doesn’t make you a bad mother and your little one won’t love you any less. In fact, it probably makes you a better mother as you are giving yourself space and time to have a break.
So take a deep breath and release the mum guilt! In my opinion mum’s need to:
– take time out for yourself
– do what feels right for you and your family
– worry less about what other people appear to be doing
Mamma’s you’ve got this!
